Mini Sessions at Griffith Park – My Favorite Hidden Gem


If you’re in the Los Angeles area and looking for a beautiful, nature-filled backdrop for your mini session, Griffith Park is one of my go-to locations. Specifically, I love shooting at the little trails area right across from The Trails Café. It’s a tucked-away gem with tall trees, soft light, and a peaceful, forest-like atmosphere—perfect for capturing timeless photos.



Why I Love This Spot

This location is great for both morning and afternoon sessions because the tall trees provide a nice shaded area, which creates soft, even lighting. Whether you’re going for a golden-hour glow or a crisp morning vibe, the light here works beautifully.

Another big plus? Minimal walking is required. Unlike some other scenic spots in Griffith Park, you won’t have to hike far to get stunning backdrops. It’s easily accessible and ideal for families with young kids, couples, or anyone who prefers a simple and stress-free session.



Parking Tips

Parking near The Trails Café is usually manageable. You might need to circle around a couple of times, but a spot tends to open up pretty quickly. Just be patient, and you’ll find one!

Important: When coming to this location, be sure to enter from Fern Dell Dr. Do not enter from N Vermont Ave or Hillhurst Ave, or you’ll get stuck in traffic heading to Griffith Observatory.



What to Wear for Your Mini Session

Since this location has a natural, earthy backdrop, I recommend wearing outfits that complement the setting:

• Neutral and warm tones – beige, olive green, rust, cream, and soft blues photograph beautifully against the greenery.

• Flowy dresses or skirts (for women) – they add movement and look stunning in natural settings.

• Textured layers – linen, knit sweaters, or denim can add depth and visual interest.

• Comfortable shoes – though the walk isn’t long, the trails can be slightly uneven, so choose footwear you can move in easily.



If you love the woodsy, trail-like feel but don’t want to venture deep into the mountains, this Griffith Park location is a fantastic option. It’s easy to get to, has gorgeous light all day long, and provides a simple, stress-free experience.
